The Hohen­lo­he Open Air Muse­um offers stu­dents – ele­men­ta­ry school stu­dents in par­ti­cu­lar – a hands-on oppor­tu­ni­ty to expe­ri­ence his­to­ri­cal acti­vi­ties and pro­ce­du­res. The “Weid­ner­hof” is the edu­ca­tio­nal cen­ter of the muse­um and is dedi­ca­ted to work with school groups. Dif­fe­rent topics dis­cus­sed at the Weid­ner­hof include “house con­s­truc­tion,” “trades,” “light and fire,” and “wool pro­ces­sing”. Other edu­ca­tio­nal topics cover­ed at dif­fe­rent sites on the muse­um pro­per­ty include: “child­hood in the past,” “school,” “bak­ing and coo­king,” “washing laun­dry,” “agri­cul­tu­re” and “grain processing.”

An important com­po­nent of the edu­ca­tio­nal pro­gram is a gui­ded tour through the his­to­ri­cal buil­dings. This is to give per­spec­ti­ve to the role and goals of the Hohen­lo­he Open Air Muse­um, as well as to pro­vi­de stu­dents with a his­to­ri­cal context.
